The Suunto Zoop Novo has long been the go-to entry-level wrist dive computer recommended in Argentina for students and recreational divers. It offers five operating modes (air, nitrox, gauge, freediving and off), a large backlit display, and an approximately 60-hour logbook (at 20-second sampling rate). The straightforward menu-based interface can be operated underwater without extensive practice beforehand.
Suunto’s conservative RGBM algorithm adds a safety margin through optional deep safety stops and ascent rate warnings. It accepts nitrox mixes up to 50% O₂; the default pO₂ limit is 1.4 bar (recommended maximum 1.6 bar). Log downloads to PC/Mac require the proprietary Suunto USB cable sold separately — a consistently criticized omission in user reviews. Battery replacement must be performed by an authorized Suunto service center, as stated in the official user guide.
Its main limitation is the lack of wireless Bluetooth connectivity: dive planning and logbook analysis require the physical cable and Suunto DM5 software. For recreational diving within no-decompression limits it is more than adequate; it is not designed for technical diving or multiple gas mixes. The included screen protector tends to crack quickly according to several Argentine users on dive forums. A comparable alternative is the Mares Puck Pro+, sometimes cheaper through importers but with inconsistent availability in Argentina.
When to use it in Argentina
For Open Water certification in Las Grutas, Pirámides or Mar del Plata it has been the most recommended choice in Argentine schools for years. It covers air and nitrox — sufficient for recreational diving on the Atlantic coast.
For boat diving in Puerto Madryn at 25 m and 12 °C it is the right tool. In Andean lakes in winter — Traful or Nahuel Huapi — the LCD display can lag in extreme cold. It is not designed for technical diving or multiple mixes; divers aiming there look at Shearwater. The proprietary cable download is the most recurring complaint on Argentine forums.
