DiveArgentina

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2025

1. Who is responsible

DiveArgentina is a platform operated from Argentina. For any privacy-related enquiries, write to [email protected].

2. What data we collect and why

We only collect what we need to run the site. Nothing more.

  • Newsletter: if you subscribe, we store your email address on our secure server. We use it exclusively to send DiveArgentina updates (approx. once a month). We don't share this list with anyone or use it for advertising.
  • Forum (comunidad.diveargentina.com): if you register in the community, Discourse stores your account data (username, email, posts). That data is also governed by our Terms of Service.
  • Browsing data: we use Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2. If you decline cookies, Google Analytics operates in a mode without individual measurement (your session isn't tracked with identifiers).

3. Legal basis for processing

We process your data based on:

  • Explicit consent — for the newsletter (opt-in) and analytics cookies.
  • Legitimate interest — for the technical operation of the site and community.
  • Contract performance — for account data on the forum.

We comply with Argentina's Personal Data Protection Law 25.326. For users in the European Union, we also apply GDPR obligations.

4. Cookies and analytics

We use a single first-party cookie (da_consent) to remember your analytics preference. We don't use advertising cookies or social media cookies.

Google Analytics 4 may record browsing data (pages visited, time on site, country, device type) if you give consent. This data goes to Google servers (US) under the standard EU–US data transfer agreement. We never share data that individually identifies you with Google.

You can change your cookie preference at any time using the banner that appears when you visit the site.

5. Third parties involved

  • Google Analytics 4 — traffic analysis (only if you accept cookies).
  • Cloudflare — CDN and DDoS protection. Cloudflare may see origin IPs to filter malicious traffic; it doesn't store personal data beyond what's technically necessary.
  • Resend — SMTP service used to send the newsletter. Your email transits through their servers for delivery.
  • Discourse — forum software, installed on our own server (not on Discourse Inc.'s cloud).
  • Mercado Libre and Amazon — affiliate programs. Some product links in /gear/ are affiliate links and may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.
  • Google AdSense — contextual advertising. Google may use cookies to serve relevant ads; you can manage your preferences in the consent banner.

We do not sell, rent or transfer your data to third parties for commercial purposes.

6. Where data is hosted

The site and forum run on a VPS server located in the European Union (Hetzner, Germany). Stored data (newsletter emails, forum data) resides on that server.

7. How long we keep your data

  • Newsletter: while you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we delete your email.
  • Forum account data: while your account is active. Deleting your account removes personal data; public content (posts) may be retained in anonymised form.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics retains aggregated data for 14 months by default.

8. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you.
  • Rectify incorrect or outdated data.
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Object to processing at any time.
  • Portability of your data in a readable format.

To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected]. We respond within a maximum of 30 business days.

To unsubscribe from the newsletter, write to that same address — we're working on an automatic unsubscribe link that will be included in every email soon.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll announce them on the site and, where appropriate, by email. The last-updated date is always visible at the top of this page.
